The Croydon-born singer hinted sly innuendos with her recent project, Second, that she is in no position in halting her Herculean journey in becoming the next big sensation. The 5-track EP engulfs the aspiring-edge that currently defines contemporary pop in the century’s 10s decade: fusing together stylistic influences from various genres with a heavy r&b foundation, and of course featuring the new, so-called “rock-stars” of the industry, rappers! You would think someone coming out of Brit School would come off as somewhat intricate, but Raye is as real as it gets. Collaborating with the G.O.A.T., Nas, in “War” for this year’s most epic historical period drama film The Birth of a Nation, recently performing her headline show at the Hoxton Square Bar, and now preparing for the release of a new record with Steff London, Raye deserves nothing but gratification.
